Bengaluru , May 18, 2020: Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao along with additional CP Soumendu Mukherji and DCP (Central) Chethan Rathore visited the St Mark’s Cathedral two weeks ago to record a song for a global concert.
The song was recorded along with the church choir and will be webcast as part of the ‘global concert of hope’ later in the month. Soon after the incident, a video of Rao attending the cathedral along with other senior officers went viral.
The video shows Bhaskar Rao singing along with the church choir at the cathedral. All of them were seen standing next to each other, which is in violation of social distancing norms.
Many questioned whether Rao had violated lockdown norms by visiting a cathedral. Public outrage on social media was also due to the fact that attending any religious places of worship has been strictly denied during the lockdown, according to a Deccan Herald report.
However, Rao has refuted all allegations and said he has not flouted any lockdown norms.
Rao went on to added that he has been visiting and interacting with various community leaders in the state to create awareness about Covid-19.
‘It was a choir. I had gone to meet church leaders,” Rao said in his defence.
