Patna, June 6, 2020: A Jesuit college in Patna, Bihar, has made its admission process online for the new academic year.

This is done to “minimize students’ visits to the campus and to ensure physical distancing in view of the Covid-19 pandemic,” explains Jesuit Father T Nishaant, principal of St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology.

The college in April started accepting online application form for admission into the various job-oriented courses for the 2020-2023 academic session

“No hard copy of admission will be available in the college office. All admissions will be on online basis,” says a June 6 press release from the college.

The principal says the online process will strengthen the admission process as well as make it transparent.

The college admits students who have passed the 12th grade exams conducted by the Bihar Board of Secondary School Examinations, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations and Central Board of Secondary Examinations,

The Bihar board for higher secondary education is yet declared the result.

Father Nishaant said the college started the admission process without waiting for the board results so that it could start the new academic session on time. The new academic sessions usually begin in August.

Father Nishaant said they have so far received more than 200 applications.

“We expect the number of applicants to go up substantially once the results are announced,” he added.

Students, who have appeared for the examinations, can apply online for admission but the selection will be done on the basis of Xavier Eligibility Test (XET) and personal interview which also will be done online, the principal explained.

The college will conduct the physical verification of the certificates after the date of commencement of classes is announced. Admission will be offered on the basis of a candidate’s performance in the XET and the interview, the press release explains.

For submitting the application, a candidate could visit the college website, www.xaviercollegepatna.org, and click on the admission tab/link and fill in the online application form, upload scanned photo and signature, pay the requisite fee and print the confirmation message.

The college will not conduct offline admissions or call students to the college for the verification of the certificates, the principal clarified.

The college offers undergraduate courses in Bachelor in Business Administration, Bachelor in Computer Application, Bachelor in Commerce -Professional, Bachelor in Business Economics and Bachelor in Mass Communication.

Vice principal Jesuit Father Martin Poras said their mission is to make the institution a center of excellence and prepare its students to become agents of social change.

“For this a rural exposure and engagement program is envisioned which will energize the students to participate in the process of transformation of rural Bihar and after their studies, contribute to it in a qualitative manner,” he added.

Jesuit Father Joseph Thadavanal, the college’s director, said it aims to offer an all-round formation that is intellectual, cultural, social, emotional, physical, aesthetic, moral and spiritual.

“It further aims at promoting values such as respect for common Indian cultural heritage, egalitarianism, democracy, secularism, equality of sexes, protection of environment, removal of social barriers, responsible use of cybernetics and mass media, transparency and probity in private and public life, national unity and respect for religious and moral values,” the director added.
