San Antonio, Texas, July 30, 2020 : Salesian Sisters the world over are now dealing with COVID-19.
Some of their own blood families have gotten sick and Salesian Sisters all over the world, including in San Antonio Texas are fighting the virus.
As of 2016, Salesian Sisters number over 14,000 members in 89 different countries, and on five continents.
In all 26 nuns from different orders have died in New York, Michigan, and Wisconsin from COVID-19. Through it all, the Salesian Sisters here in San Antonio have been praying.
“All of our sisters are doing very well,” says Sister Rosann Ruiz. “They are intensifying our prayers for the world.”
Sister Rosann Ruiz oversees the Salesian Sisters in the Western Hemisphere. She says prayer is not the last resort, prayer is your first recourse.
“We have to fill our hearts of faith and hope.”
From the early 20s to mid-80s the Sisters of St. John Bosco know their mission is to teach in the heart of the west side. But today they want to invite everyone to join their live stream of a special rosary. This rosary will be asking for health, healing, and protection for all of us during this pandemic.
To a reporter’s question “Do you have to be Catholic to pray?” Sister Ruiz says,”God created us all. Catholic, and not Catholic in His image. And nothing gives His creation more joy and fills it with more joy and lift all of us in prayer. It is believed that God’s mother gave the Rosary to humans here on earth to ask for the end of war, for the health of her children, for peace a powerful prayer that is centuries old.”
The Salesian Sisters are asking people of all walks of life to join them Thursday, July 30, 2020, for a special time of prayer. They will live stream the Rosary on Facebook beginning at 7 pm.
“Catholic and non-Catholic please join in”
Sister Rosann says in prayer they hope they can once again see the community out living life to the fullest.
“We miss seeing them, hugging them, we miss you. And with great affection, we press you in our hearts in prayer and we pray so the lord will guide your way defend you from evil fill your heart and fill your households with every joy that would be my final message.” END
