New Delhi, Aug 14, 2020: More than 1,500 people from around India are set to take part in the first online ‘National Bible Quiz’
The Youth Commission of the Conference of Catholic Bishops’ of India (CCBI) along with its allied organization—the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) — is organizing the first season on August 15, the feast of Assumption and the 73rd anniversary of the country’s independence.
The registration closed August 10.
As people are confined to indoors in their homes because of the nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus, the ICYM national office came up with the idea of engaging young people in the country in a ‘National Bible Quiz’ (NBQ), said CCBI Youth Commission secretary Father Chetan Machado.
The NBQ is aimed at providing a positive and innovative method to study and retain God’s Word by using an online format for all Christians. This will enable them to solidify a sound, biblical world view, added the Delhi archdiocesan priest.
The NBQ 2020 focuses on “the Gospel of Luke” of the New Testament. Quizzes on other books of the Bible will follow in subsequent series, say the organizers.
One book from the Bible for a particular series is to enable participants to study the subject in the depth and participate individually in the quiz in online mode on a fixed date and time.
The quiz consists of questions carefully designed keeping the theme and the teachings of the Gospel in mind. Each question in the quiz is of multiple-choice or “true or false” format.
The participants will be divided into three groups according to their age: Group 1 (13 – 19 years), group 2 (20 – 35 years) and group 3 (35 years above).
Three winners will be chosen from each group. The first prize carries 3,000 rupees with a winner’s certificate, second prize 2000 rupees with runner up certificate and third prize 1000 rupees with runner up a certificate.
The next 10 highest scorers, irrespective of their group, will receive 500 rupees each.
Another 25 consolation prizes who score the next highest irrespective of their group will be given a copy of the New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition Bible.
Those scoring 80 percent and above will get a memento and a participation certificate.
The national winners will get free entry to the Season II NBQ which will be conducted later.
CCBI Youth Commission is the chief organ of the CCBI that animates the youth apostolate across 132 Latin rite dioceses and 14 ecclesial regions towards a deeper Christian awareness and commitment through faith formation.
