Siliguri, Aug 25, 2020: The social service center of Bagdogra diocese in West Bengal honoured the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) staff’s service that they render to the public, especially during the coronavirus pandemic.
On August 25, Seva Kendra Siliguri organised a program in front of the local ward office on Nivedita Road, Siliguri to express its gratitude and show appreciation to all the SMC staff of Ward no 2 for the wonderful work they have been doing faithfully all through this COVID-19 pandemic, said its director Father Felix Antony Pinto.
A hygiene/medical kit along with food items were given to all the 56 staff of the Ward. They were also honoured with a ‘khada’ (shawl).
Bagdogra Bishop Vincent Aind gave an encouraging message to the SMC staff.
The program was meant to appreciate and acknowledge the SMC staff’s contribution to the common good, Bishop Aind said.
On this occasion the councilor Mrs. Snigdha Haldar asked Seva Kendra Siliguri to plant a few tree saplings on the road divider.
“We thank all the Corona warriors and wish them well in their stressful job. May God bless them and keep them all safe,” said Father Pinto.
SMC was established in 1994 and has been responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Siliguri.
Siliguri Municipal Corporation areas include both in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri district. Out of 47 wards of SMC, 14 are in the Jalpaiguri district.
Siliguri city, some 590 km north of Kolkata, the state capital of West Bengal, sits surrounded by tea estates in the foothills of the Himalayas.
