Kohima, August 21,2020: Against the backdrop of rising concerns regarding a certain ‘Church of Almighty God’ or Lightning cult from China, the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has issued a cautionary notice on August 20.
A statement from Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, General Secretary NBCC stated that a cult, called the Church of Almighty God from China was “reportedly making inroads into our land.”
“The Church of Almighty God or Eastern Lightning cult is a well organized group, aggressively moving forward with publication and creating many Facebook pages and colourful artwork that appears biblical and enticing,” the NBCC stated.
According to the NBCC, the cult teaches that Jesus/God has come back to Earth as a woman, named Yang Xiangbin also called Lightning Deng, and the New Testament has been replaced by their new bible, called ‘The Word Appears in the Flesh’.
“They teach that God is speaking through this woman, and they refer to God’s speaking through this woman, as utterances, and these utterances are written in their books, as revelations from God, and they are being published and promoted through books, videos, computer generated movies and artwork and many other forms of media,” it added.
The NBCC further said that this cult proclaims that there are three ages that God is working out as His plan for mankind:
1. The Age of Law, that begins salvation and God’s name is Jehovah.
2. The Age of Grace, that continues salvation, and God’s name is Jesus.
3. The Age of Kingdom, that completes salvation, and God’s name is The Almighty.
While warning that the cult is spreading false Gospel, the NBCC said urged for all to beware and “take every measure to shield our respective congregations from such false religion.”
