New Delhi, Aug 30, 2020: Father Augustine Kuriapilly, one of the pioneers of communication in the Indian Church and a priest of the archdiocese of Delhi, died August 30 in New Delhi. He was 77.
“With profound grief we inform you that our dear Rev. Fr. Augustine Kuriapilly, priest of Archdiocese of Delhi, has left for his heavenly abode around 1 am on August 30 at Holy Family Hospital,” says a condolence message
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on August 31 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, New Delhi, with a Mass followed by burial at York Cemetery, around 4 km south.
Father Kuriapilly was a journalist who was involved with Indian Catholic Press Association. He was also a member UNDA-OCIA, the erstwhile Church bodies for cinema and audiovisual.
He had led the media team of the Delhi archdiocese when Pope John Paul II visited India first time on February 1, 1986.
A native of Kochi, Kerala, Father Kuriapilly was the founder editor of The Delhi Voice, the archdiocesan monthly magazine started in 1991. He edited the magazine for ten years.
He was a painter, author of several books and a trainer of homiletics. He had written a manual and guide for effective communication.
He has served several parishes in the archdiocese as pastor.
Father Kuriapilly was born on May 8, 1943. He was ordained a priest on November 1, 1970.
