Rourkela: One of the fastest growing YouTube channel in Adivasi belt is The Amigos Production. Based in Rourkela, Odisha, the production house is managed by three friends — David Bipul Lomga (Director), Sudeep Sachit Kiro (DOP), Sameer Tirkey (Production Manager) and other temporary artists hired on work basis.
The Amigos Production house is specialized in making music videos since 2018 when the three friends planned to give their hobbies a platform. These young filmmakers have no professional training or academic qualifications in music production or filmmaking.
“It’s what we love. We had the urge to learn and we developed ourselves just by watching movies and learning through youtube,” says production director David Bipul
Their studio is a small room with an old style village roof with room space barely enough to fit 5 people. In the corner of the room there is a bare wooden table with a budget PC, and a beginner’s version of DSLR camera and unlimited ideas in their heads.
“We will never stop and will surely find our way to give wings to our dreams,” says director of photography Sudeep Sachit.
On asking why they only make music videos in tribal language they say, “We are just targeting Adivasi audience. Adivasi hai isliye Adivasiyo ke liye banate hai.” (We are Adivasis, so we make for Adivasis).
“Be rooted in your culture and be proud of it,” says Sudeep explaining, “Our language is our identity, losing it we will lose our Identity. So, we are just trying to conserve our language by our music videos and our language is getting a platform too.”
“When we started we faced huge financial problem, but that didn’t deter us as we had the idea of doing it our way,” recalls Sudeep.
“Our bare minimum equipment is more than enough,” adds David citing the example of Bhuvam Bam one of the famous YouTuber who is still using his same old mobile phone in 2020 which he used to make his first video.
These guys are a happy lot, ready for a long haul, providing Adivasi community new links to stay connected and rooted. END
