Kolkata, Sept 4, 2020: Some legendary national award winning filmmakers in India are expected to speak at a webinar on Father Gaston Roberge, a Jesuit media guru who died on August 26 in Kolkata, eastern India.

Jesuit Father Dominic Savio is organizing the webinar at 6:30 pm on September 6 under the guidance of president of St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) Alumni Association and principal St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata.

The theme of the webinar is “The Life, Works and Legacy of Father Gaston Roberge SJ” and some of the prominent speakers are Shyam Benegal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Goutam Ghosh and Buddhadeb Dasgupta.

Father Savio will deliver the welcome and keynote address of the webinar.

Saibal Chatterjee, a former student of St Xavier’s and a national award winning film critic will moderate the program.

The webinar will be live on Zoom and the official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sxccaa/) for a bigger outreach.

Father Roberge, a Canadian missionary, was revered as the apostle and pioneer of film appreciation, film studies and Church communications in India.

He was 85 when he died.

He was the father of film studios in India who had associated with Satyajit Ray and other top filmmakers in the world.
