Jakarta: Flash floods submerged more than 900 houses in 12 villages in Garut district of West Java province on Oct. 12, according to official sources.
Around 800 families had to be evacuated due to the flash floods, Imam Imrania, the logistics head of the Disaster Management Agency of Garut district, told Xinhua by phone on Oct. 12.
“Heavy rains that occurred from Oct, 11 night to Oct. 12 morning caused the Cipalebuh and Cikaso rivers to overflow and submerge the surrounding houses,” said Imrania.
No casualties were reported so far, he added.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) previously issued an early warning for West Java after heavy rains accompanied by lightnings occurred on Sunday and Monday.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in the central part of Vietnam which flooded several areas extensively.
