Mumbai: The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), an NGO, has been providing relief to the needy amid the pandemic since April.

“We have touched the lives of 632,683 poor and needy – providing for their basic needs during this challenging time of Covid-19 pandemic,” said Salesian Father Rolvin D’Mello, executive director.

DBDS is undertaking the relief distributions to various vulnerable and marginalized communities in collaboration with Don Bosco Mondo (Bonn, Germany) and local NGOs of various states in India.

Recently, DBDS helped another 200 poor and needy families residing in the slums of Bandra, Mumbai by distributing relief kits containing ration and toiletries, said Father D’Mello.

The distribution was done from the campus of Mount Carmel Church, Bandra. Physical distancing and other government compliances were strictly adhered to during this entire process.

A total number of 20,000 poor and needy in the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat will be helped in these coming weeks through this relief project, he said.

DBDS was founded in 2001 to enable individuals and communities to work for the sustainable development of people.

It has been active in tribal, rural and urban areas in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

Since its inception, DBDS has been working in communities addressing the issues related to women, children, livelihood, human rights, environment, education, food security, health, vocational skills training and water and sanitation.
