Colombo: Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) October 18 arrested a 43-year-old woman for posting an inflammatory video promoting religious hate between Buddhists and Catholics on social media.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the woman from Battaramulla was arrested for uploading a video to social media with malicious content mentioning Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.
The woman will be produced before the Fort Chief Magistrate October 19, the police spokesman said.
The Catholic Church has also issued a statement condemning the attempt by the woman to tarnish the image of the Archbishop of Colombo.
In the statement issued by the Administrative Secretary of the Catholic Church said that an unknown woman had released a video targeting the Archbishop to public through Facebook and the claims made by the woman are false baseless, offensive and misleading.
The Archbishop’s office said that a complaint has been filed with the relevant authorities to take legal action against the woman and call on the people to condemn such acts.
