Patna: Voting in the Lok Sabha and assembly elections using artificial intelligence and machine learning could become a reality in five to seven years, says a senior lawyer of the Patna High Court.

“Once this happens people would be able to cast their votes through their mobile phones sitting at their homes. This will also reduce the use of money and muscle power considerably,” Tuhin Shankar told a webinar November 2, organized by the Jesuit-managed St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology in the Bihar state capital of Patna

The webinar on ‘Youth 360′ marked the conclusion of the Vigilance Awareness Week being observed by the college’s National Service Scheme unit.

During the week, the NSS volunteers took integrity pledge, attended a mini-walkathon, organized a mini-talkathon and staged street plays to create awareness on the Vigilance Awareness Week theme ‘Satark Bharat, Samriddh Bharat (Vigilant India, Prosperous India).’

While motivating the college students, who are eligible to exercise their franchise, Shankar asked them not to get swayed by “aggressive canvassing” that can create a myopic vision about candidates and political parties. “Therefore, elect a right person who has a comprehensive agenda for development and a corruption-free society,” he added.

At the outset, college’s controller of examination, Jesuit Father Sebastian Alphonse said people often complained that political leaders were not doing enough. “We fail to realize that the fault is with us. If we do not vote, we lose the right to complain,” he said.

  1. Anything “electronic and digital” can be “tampered and manipulated”. The only reliable method (followed in all countries except India) seems to be “Ballot Paper”.
