Bengaluru: Society should recognize the remarkable talents and skills of specially-abled persons, asserts Archbishop Peter Machado of Bangalore.

The prelate was the chief guest of “Caring for the disabled,” an event on January 9 to honor eleven specially-abled people and two Covid warriors in Bengaluru.

The program was organized by Don Bosco Church, Lingarajapuram, in association with collaborators such as various Rotary Clubs.

Archbishop Machado urged society to recognize, acknowledge and accept differently-abled persons.

The archbishop later mingled freely with the differently-abled persons.

The main focus of the program was to felicitate and honor the differently abled achievers, said Valarie George, the president of Rotary Bangalore Kalyan.

She said it was an honor to “celebrate the lives of those inspirational people who have beaten all odds and progressed in today’s society.”

As many as 75 differently abled attended the event.

Local parish priest Salesian Father Aloysius Santiago, was honored as a Covid warrior for his selfless service during the pandemic.

The other Covid warrior honored was Amelie Cecily, who also went out of her way to help others during the pandemic.

  1. When words like “specially abled” and “differently abled” are used in the report, then, why an outdated word “Disabled” is used in the banner???
