Longding: A Catholic church and four houses were gutted in a fire accident after New year’s celebration st Nginu village in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to sources, Nginu village hymn books, copies of the Bible, music instruments, altar, chair, statue, and many other items were gutted when the church caught fire.

Four houses were also reduced to ashes. Villagers took off the roofs of nearby houses to prevent the brazing spreading to other houses , most of them made of bamboo and palm leaves.

Longding district is inhabited by the Wancho tribe. With low productivity, it is considered one of the most backward in in the eastern Indian state. The district headquarters is some 130 km south of Tinsukia, the nearest railway station in Assam state.
