Ranchi: Sister Subhashi Kandulna, the eighth superior general of the Ranchi-based Daughters of St Anne, died January 29 due to a cardiac arrest. She was 81.

The death occurred at 6 am at St Anne’s Old Age Home at Ulhatu near Ranchi, capital of the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand.

Sister Kandulna was the superior general for 12 years from December 1, 1982.

She was born on August 31, 1939, at Jitutoli parish. She was a member of the congregation for 60 years.

The Daughters of St. Anne was founded in Ranchi by Mother Mary Bernadette Prasad Kispotta on July 26, 1897, along with three companions namely Mother Cecilia, Mother Veronica and Mother Mary.

It was the first congregation for tribal girls in eastern India. As of July 2-2, the congregation had 1,108 nuns working in 149 convents in India, Italy and Germany.
