Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20: The Privileges and Ethics Committee of the of the Kerala Legislative Assembly has recommended action against legislator P.C. George, for making derogatory remarks against a Catholic nun who has accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal of raping her.

In September 2018, George had used obscene language to address the nun and questioned the genuineness of her complaint. George’s outrageous words reportedly mentally shattered the nun who was planning to address the media to tell her grievances about the delay in completing the investigation and arresting the accused.

In its report submitted to the Assembly on Jan 20, the Privilege and Ethics Committee said the allegations raised against the legislator were serious. Pointing out that the legislators had to maintain high standards in public life, the committee said Mr. George had violated the conduct of rules for legislators and his comments had affected the dignity of the Assembly.

The complaint against PC George was filed by Kerala Women’s Commission chairperson MC Josephine.

In 2013, Mr. George, who was then Chief Whip, was censured by Privileges and Ethics Committee for his derogatory remarks against veteran leaders T.V. Thomas and K.R. Gouri.

  1. Mr. George has been badmouthing the nuns for quite sometime now. He reserves to reprimanded and also made to apologize to the nuns.

  2. This reminds me of when we met Prime Minister V.P. Singh about the Gajraula nuns tape case. I told him of how his party MLA Ganesh Dixit had locked the gate of St Joseph’s School here in Kanpur. He called Chief Minister Mulayam Singh on the hotline, and got the MLA to apologize to the sisters.
