Patna: A US-based management expert on January 10 cautioned against hackers who are active in digital world making cyber security a key concern for society.

Trillions of devices would be connected to internet in the coming years and people would have a lot of data coming out of it, Girish Nambiar told a webinar on ‘Internet of Things, Digital and Connected Analytics,’ organized by the St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology in Patna, capital of Bihar state.

“Hacking is growing, fraudulent transactions are on the rise and many people were receiving fake appointment letters,” said Nambiar, program director of Integrated Transformation Delivery, WIPRO, South California.

According to him, things have been automated to such an extent that one might not need any manual intervention.

However, automation, internet of things (IoT), data analytics and the transitional shift to digitization have also thrown up challenges, particularly in terms of cyber security threats, he added.

All internet-connected devices were always vulnerable to unauthorized access by hackers without proper cyber security measures in place, he said.

“Skills in IoT, digital and connected analytics can assess these threat perceptions and offer solutions,” he added.

The webinar began with principal Jesuit Father T Nishaant SJ observing IoT’s exponential growth globally in recent times. It has garnered much attention because of its potential to significantly transform human life, he said and added IoT must comply with social and ethical expectations.
