Kochi: The Orthodox Church on February 5 approached the Kerala High Court against the Act passed by the state government which allowed the burial of Jacobites in the cemeteries of churches under the control of the Orthodox.

A bench of Justice P V Asha served a notice to the state government and parties in the case.

The High Court will consider the petition on February 17.

In 2020, the state government brought an ordinance permitting the burial of Jacobites in their family cemetery which is now under the control of the Orthodox.

Later, the government passed this ordinance as the Kerala Christian Cemeteries (Right to Burial of Corpse) Act.

  1. That’s very graceless! Denying burial to a person’s body in his/her family grave just because the cemetery in question is under the control of a different faction is crass. Even if the petitioning faction wins the appeal in the High Court, will it be able to face the Creator when finally entering the Pearly Gates? Does the petitioning faction imagine Heaven to be divided into the various factions that exist in Kerala and in the rest of the country?
By the way, whatever happened to the much publicized meeting of the current PM with the heads [and probably tails] of the two factions that took place very recently? What now remains to be seen is which of the two factions is going to have the PM’s company when entering Heaven!
