Bangalore: Father Baptist Pais was appointed the executive secretary to the Commission for Ecumenism under the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.
The 61-year-old member of the Mumbai province of the Divine World Society was made by the conference’s executive committee in a virtual meeting May 14-15.
Father Pais was the Ecumenism Commission Secretary of the Diocese of Mysore during 2014 to 2017. He was the consultative body member of the CCBI Commission for Ecumenism. He is well known Christian devotional song singer and sung more than 100 songs in Hindi and Konkani.
He is the recipient of the Konkani Sahitya Academy Award for his contribution to Konkani culture and language in 2011.
He was born on June 23, 1959, at Allipade, Malekodi in Dakshina Kannada district of Mangalore diocese, Karnataka. After his schooling he joined the Society of the Divine World in 1972 and made his final profession in 1987. He did his philosophy and theology at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeetham, Pune. He was ordained a priest in 1988.
