Bhopal: A health worker in Madhya Pradesh is facing police investigation after she was seen in a video that purportedly showed her going door to door and asking people to pray to Jesus Christ to stay safe amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

BJP legislator Rameshwar Sharma was among those who tweeted the video, alleging the health worker’s motive was religious conversion.

In videos shared on social media, the health worker is seen visiting homes at a village in Ratlam district. Some villagers alleged that she was heard asking people to pray to Jesus Christ for protection from Covid and safe recovery, if infected.

A man is heard in the video confronting the health worker. “Why are you asking people to pray to Jesus Christ? Who sent you here? From which hospital are you? Why are you telling people that they will recover by praying to Jesus Christ?” asked the man, who is recording the video.

The health worker, in a white coat, is heard replying: “People are getting better by offering prayers to Jesus Christ.”

Ratlam district tehsildar BS Thakur said they have got a complaint that the health worker under government contract was propagating Christianity while carrying out the “Kill Coronavirus” campaign at the village. Religious pamphlets were also found with her, Thakur said.

The tehsildar said a report will be sent to senior officers.

Tweeting the video, legislator Sharma said, “Will the coronavirus kill the conversion virus…”

“This is not the time to propagate any religion. Doctors and medical professionals are engaged in selfless service to humanity. In such a situation, the woman is propagating a religion. This is condemnable,” Sharma told news agency PTI.

Chief medical and health officer Doctor Prabhakar Nanaware said they will send a report to the district collector, seeking to end the contract of the health worker.

  1. Will anybody confirm the truth about this accused worker? who employed her? which hospital she is attached to? Why people try to antagonize the government and the local people? why creating enmity between communities. It is against the peaceful co-existence of the people. Truth must be found and published.

  2. Poor health worker! What an opportunity she has found to preach about Jesus!!

She may not be aware that hundreds of priests and nuns (all of them believers of Jesus Christ) died and still continue to die, due to Covid-19.

  3. So there we are – back to square one! CONVERSION allegations!!
When will the Church learn to mind its own business and leave the care of people other than believers to the government of the Holy Cow!
Opening churches and institutions to the government to run its inhumanitarian programmes of COVID treatments, Vaccination, giving out free food and medicines and even clothing and shelter is clearly bringing in nothing but accusations of conversion, conversion, conversion!

Considering the amount of money spent by the Church and its institutions on the general public in ways too numerous to be listed, it’s time the Church in India woke up to the need to look after its own flock in every way possible. There are Dalits who can’t get a decent education not merely because of lack of funds but also because of discrimination within the church on the basis of caste and class. Perhaps she could use her resources to actively strive to eradicate DISCRIMINATION and simultaneously open educational institutions for the benefit of the Dalits. There’s a lot else that she can do.

With the kind of money spent on the ungrateful dregs of society in general, she could well have medical care in all Catholic hospitals rendered free to all Catholics. Indeed, there’s yet much, much more that the Church in India can do for its own flock to make all in her fold self-sufficient rather than dance to the tune of accusations, allegations and calamities, bringing on herself the wrought of a government that is hell bent on making the lives of believers miserable. And if the latest accusation doesn’t serve as a wake up call to those concerned, nothing will.
