Patna: Six colleges promoted by Christian minority community have figured in the list of Education World India league table of the country’s 10 most admired privately-promoted autonomous undergrad colleges for 2020-2021.
The league table is based on the survey of 1,823 academics and 2,133 final year college students in 21 states, according to a report published in “Education World.”
The top four positions have been bagged by institutions run by the Jesuits.
In the league table of autonomous colleges, St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, has retained its last year’s rank as the country’s premier private autonomous arts, science and commerce undergrad college with an aggregate score of 620. St. Joseph’s College, Bengaluru, has been ranked second while St Xavier’s, Kolkata third. Loyola College, Chennai, a Jesuit institution, shares the fourth place with Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru.
The top-ranked private autonomous college in Bihar, according to the report is St. Xavier’s College of Education, Patna. The college run by the Society of Jesus, has been ranked 76 with an aggregate score of 452.
The other Jesuit college in Patna, St Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, has applied for university status under the Bihar Private University Act 2013 and is awaiting the state cabinet’s approval.
All India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE) general secretary Jesuit Father Xavier Vedam has congratulated the member institutions for securing six top seats among private autonomous colleges
“AIACHE feels so proud of your sense of dedication and devotion, commitment and concomitance. Let’s continue to mold humans, form characters, and create students to be men and women for others,” he said in a statement.
