Bhubaneswar, Sept. 29, 2021: A tribal environmental activist from Odisha is one of the participants of the ‘Youth4Climate,’ the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Milan, Italy.
Archana Soreng is one of the seven members of the UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres’ youth advisory group on climate change.
“I am super thrilled to join the youth4Climate: Driving Ambition at Milan hosted by Government of Italy,” said Soreng, a member of the Kharia tribe in Odisha in eastern India.
Soreng, Catholic is among the 400 young climate champions from the 197 member countries of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change meeting Sept 28-30 in Milan.
The international event is being hailed as a ‘Bridge Builders’ for the theme: ‘Sustainable Recovery,’ the 25-year-old Indian said.
“I will be working on the ‘Nature-Based Solutions’ and Indigenous and Local Communities within the theme,” said Soreng, a researcher.
The meet also helped her meet the UN secretary-general’s youth advisory group on climate change.
The participants are working with their peers from around the world to develop concrete proposals that to present to the ministers attending the Pre-COP at the Milan Conference Centre on September 30 – October 2 and the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26.
COP26 is scheduled to be held in Glasgow, Scotland between October 31 and November 12, under the presidency of the United Kingdom.
Pope Francis, among others, is scheduled to attend the COP26.
