New Delhi: A new book on Jesuit tribal activist Father Stan Swamy will be released in New Delhi.
Human rights defenders are set to launch a book on Father Stan titled, ‘Fr Stan Swamy: A Maoist or A Martyr?’ by Jesuit Father Prakash Louis.
Father Luis is the former executive director of the Jesuit-run Indian Social Institute, New Delhi.
The book release and public meeting will be held between 3 pm and 6 pm on September 10, at the Deputy Speaker Hall of the Constitution Club, New Delhi.
The book is part of the political journey of the author to trace the life and contributions of the veteran social activist, who died under state custody.
The book is also an effort to hold Stan’s life against the false and truncated charges of the ‘anti-national’ and ‘terrorist supporter’ that the Indian political establishment conspired to place on Fr. Stan and the other Bhima-Koregaon accused, who have been under incarceration under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Several human rights activists, members of civil society groups, journalists, advocates, politicians and academia are scheduled to speak on the occasion.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA), India’s counterterrorism task force, arrested Father Stan, 83, on October 18 from his residence at Bagaicha near Ranchi, Jharkhand capital and was held in Taloja prison, Mumbai, western India. He died on July 5 while in custody.
