Panaji, Oct 14, 2021: The Archdiocese of Goa-Daman celebrated the communication week with the theme of the World Communications Day “Come and See: Communicating and Encountering People where and as they are.”

The October 10-16 celebration began with a meeting of well-known tiatrists at Lar De Estudantes, Altinho, a hill neighborhood of Panaji, the state capital.

In his homily Archbishop Filipe Neri appreciated the tiatrists’ work in protecting culture and educating people on various issues like ecology, Land grabbing and mining.

The archbishop noted that the “tiatrist provide good entertainment and promote values in society.”

Director Diocesan Centre for Lay Apostolate, Father Jorge Fernandes called upon the tiatrists to be witnesses of the values they promote through their art.

Father Fernandes noted that the powerful tiatre ministry helps highlight social concerns and conscientize people through regular entertainment.

Tiatre is also a medium for evangelization, according To Father Fernandes. “Through tiatre we can reach out to many people. People listen attentively to the dialogue in drama,” he added.

Speaking on how tiatre can renew the world he said, every drama should be like the Transfiguration of Jesus: touching the hearts with the powerful messages and challenging the audience to transform their lives, and sometimes helping them to relax and forget all their sorrows.

He encouraged them to come together to discuss issues plaguing them.

During the week the messages focused on seven themes gleaned from the 55th World Communications day: The attitude of moving beyong, Hitting the Streets, The need for a true encounter, Paul of tarsus: Witness and Communicator of Chirst, The creative way of communicating and encountering people online, Being a Voice to the Voiceless, and Witnesses of the Truth.
