Valletta, April 2, 2022: Pope Francis arrived in Malta in the morning of April for his 36 visit abroad and his first journey of 2022.

His two-day visit and pilgrimage to the Mediterranean island will follow in the footsteps of Saint Paul and focus on themes of evangelization and the need to welcome, protect and integrate migrants and refugees.

Pope Francis arrived in Malta on the Papal ITA Airways plane carrying him, various members of the Vatican Curia, and 74 journalists that departed early morning from Rome’s Fiumicino airport.

The visit was twice postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
