  1. Floods are an annual occurrence in the state of Assam and each year it wreaks havoc. But since it is an annual phenomenon and something which is not a surprise, there must be some scientific ways and means to buttress the menace. How much of it is natural and how much is man-made namely unplanned construction on or around the river’s natural path and deforestation in hilly regions?

According to information published by the government of Assam, 31.05 lakh Hectares area is flood prone in the state against the total area of 78.523 lakh Hectares. It is 39.58 per cent of the state and about 9.40 per cent of the entire country.
