Panaji, May 7, 2022: A book on career choices and success in life will benefit students and parents alike, say some educationists.
The book, “100 Tips for Career Choices and Success in Life,” by Salesian Father Raj Mariasusai will encourage students to gain the habit of reading, says Franciscan Hospitallers Sister Anastasia, who teaches in Mary Immaculate High School, Panaji, capital of Goa.
The nun lamented that children have lost the habit of reading. “They are coming to the school with mobile sets and use shirt forms for words, learning from the internet. They are not able to write good sentences too,” she told Matters India.
The book was released by Marilia Esteves, headmistress of People’s High School in Panaji. “This book is very helpful for students. Parents and teachers also must read this book,” she added.
The May 5 book release took place at Pauline Book and Media Centre in Panaji.
Published by Pauline Publications, the book speaks about job opportunities, career prospects and the ways to achieve them for a better personal life and betterment of society. The book also discusses questions from students about how to handle situations in a particular career.
The author priest says every human has the necessary strength to find his or her destiny. “Career is a call within and the choice is each one’s,” Father Mariasusai adds.
He also explains the difference between a Career and a Job. A job is defined as “a piece of work, especially, a specific task done as part of the routine of one’s occupation or for an agreed monetary gain.”
A career, on the other hand, is “an occupation or profession, especially one requiring special training followed as one’s lifework.”
A job, Father Mariasusai says, is simply a short term pursuit, but a career is a long- term purpose. One can change the position easily, but changing the career would pose many difficulties.
The book guides students to acquire background knowledge about various types of studies in different fields their fit with aptitude. The book also would help counselors, parents and teachers to guide their wards, the priest claims.
The author has decades of experience in education, environment, media, youth and social development both in India and abroad.
