Kayamkulam, May 9, 2022: A young woman on May 9 gave up her attempt to die by suicide after a swarm of wasps attacked her atop a mobile tower.

A video on social media shows an unnamed woman, dressed in salwar-kameez, climbing the tower with a bottle of petrol while police and fire force personnel along with local people urged her to come down.

The fire force also spread a net around the tower. The incident took place around 5 pm in Kerala’s Kayamkulam town.

As the woman, reportedly the mother of a child, ignored the pleas and kept climbing the BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) tower, a swarm of wasps suddenly attacked her.

The woman quickly descended, crying loudly. After some time, she jumped into the net. The people and fire personnel used tree branches to chase away the wasps that kept attacking the woman even on the net.

After preliminary medical care she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared out of danger.

The woman, reportedly a native of Tamil Nadu, wanted her child back from her husband. She had left home some time ago with the child after a quarrel with her abusive husband. She had first gone to her sister’s house in Tirur, Tamil Nadu. But the husband reached there and took away the child after thrashing her. She then came to her friend’s house in Charummood near Puthupally.

The woman reportedly tried to die by suicide after the police in Tirur allegedly ignored her complaint against the husband.
