New Delhi, June 14, 2022: A Catholic nun working in the diocese of Rajkot in Gujarat state died in a road accident three days ago.

Sister Grace Jose, a member of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation, was going for evening Mass on a scooter on June 11 when her vehicle collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction.

The 45-year-old nun died on the spot, Carmelite Father Vinod Kanatt, a missionary in Junagadh, told Matters India.

The funeral was held on June 13 at Shanti Bhavan Convent in Gondal parish, some 40 km south of Rajkot.

The nun had been serving the Rajkot mission from her formation days, Father Kanatt explained. At the time of her death, Sister Jose was a member of the Navjeevan Convent in Lodhika, 32 km southwest of Rajkot.

Sister Jose was born August 8, 1976, in Eettikattil family of Kodencherry Nooranadu in Kerala’s Kozhikode district. She is survived by her mother, three brothers and a sister. One of her brothers is a Fransalian missionary in Nagaland, northeastern India.

She pronounced her first vows on May 2, 2001 and final profession on April 18, 2007.
