Manila, June 22, 2022: Radio Veritas Asia (RVA) has achieved 1 million followers on Facebook, a milestone for the Asian Bishops’ project to proclaim the Gospel to Asians.

“This is a very significant record and a great milestone for the whole of RVA. We achieved this by regularly engaging with the audience and building a digital community, and other effective ways,” says RVA general manager Father Victor F. Sadaya.

Established in 1969 as a Catholic continental shortwave radio, RVA migrated to the online, digital platform four years ago. Through its 21 language services across Asia and an English website, RVA reached more than 1 million Facebook followers on June 14. The audience continues to grow on Facebook and other social media platforms, Father Sadaya said.

He also said the RVA’s efforts to share Christ’s message has earned it the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity,” Father Sadaya added.

To mark the event, Cardinal Charles Maung Bo, president of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC), will lead a Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Yangon, Myanmar, at 11:45 am (Hong Kong time) on June 24, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The Mass will be live-streamed from Myanmar on RVA’s Facebook page and all the language services.

Salesian Father George Plathottam, executive secretary of FABC’s Office of Social Communication, says the milestone will motivate and inspire the RVA family to continue its mission to the Church and all peoples of Asia.

Father Bernard Dashi Tang, RVA program director said, “This great number of followers adds to the reliability and credibility of the brand that we aspire to sustain. We are aware that more followers usually mean more potential audiences.”

“Our followers are our assets. They are the first audience to encounter the social media posts and content of the languages in Asia and other parts of the world,” he said.

According to Arlene Donarber, RVA assistant program director and head of the audience research, the milestone is the fruit of collaboration and hard job by all the language services and staff in different Asian countries.

The one-million milestone is a challenge for RVA to continue to offer more relevant, meaningful, and engaging content, she added.
