Abia, Aug 16, 2022: A priest and a seminarian kidnapped in Abia State, southeast Nigeria, were released unhurt August 15.
Spiritan Father Chinedu Nwadike, who is deputy registrar at the Spiritan University Nneochi, and the seminarian were abducted August 12 at gunpoint shortly after driving out of the university gates on their way to Enugu for an official appointment.
Local press reports say there have been many kidnappings and attempted kidnappings recently in this location on the highway, which is not far from a military checkpoint. Police in the region have accused soldiers of being involved in a kidnapping ring.
A relative of Father Nwadike has expressed relief that he is safe and thanked all those who prayed for the release of both hostages.
