Kolkata, December 25,2023: The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee joined Archbishop Thomas D’Souza of Kolkata at the solemn `Jubilee Year Door’ inaugural at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Rosary in Kolkata during a Christmas Eve function on December 24,2023.
After unveiling of the Christmas crib and offering floral tribute to baby Jesus, Archbishop D’Souza and Chief Minister Banerjee inaugurated the Jubilee Year Door of the Cathedral.
The 12 feet by 8 feet door, based on the theme of the Annunciation, is in keeping with Pope Francis’ recent announcement that Church will celebrate a Jubilee Year in 2025 with the theme of ‘Pilgrims of Hope’.
The idea to use the theme of Annunciation – Virgin Mary’s divine conception of Jesus Christ – in the form of bronze finish reliefs has been conceptualized and executed by a young student Parthabrata Ganguly of Church Art, a Kolkata-based creative firm that specialises in creating sacred and esoteric art work in compliance with the canonical laws.
“In times marked by conflicts and violence, the significance of a Jubilee Year Holy Door takes on an even more profound meaning. It stands as a symbol of hope, reconciliation, mercy and peace amidst turmoil,” said Cathedral Vicar Fr. Dr. Franklin Menezes.
Doors and jubilees are a dime a dozen, can be thrown out of the window.
