Guwahati, Sept. 30, 2024: A book on modern-day Salesians in northeastern India has received widespread appreciation.

It “is a great tribute to the missionary Salesians, not only when they are dead but even while they are alive,” says Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati, after reading the “Echoes of Grace,” a book of more than 700 pages and weighing 3 kilos.

The book by Salesian Father P X Andrew Xavier offers biographical sketches of 142 Salesians. It was released on August 3 during the installation of the Joseph Pampackal as the eighth Salesian provincial of Dimapur.

” With 71 Salesians still living and 71 remembered in death, the book stands as a powerful testimony to their enduring legacy,” the archbishop added.

He also said the book honors Salesian who shaped the spiritual landscape of northeastern India.

The book celebrates missionaries such as the late Archbishop Dominic Jala of Shillong and Venerable Stephen Ferrando, alongside as Bishops P.K. George Palliparambil of Miao, Dennis Pitchai, and retired Bishop Joseph Aind, who are still alive.

Salesian Father James Mani, a batchmate of the Dimapur provincial, hailed the book as a “refreshing narrative of remembrance.” He said the book is a living celebration, serving as a beacon of inspiration for future generations.
