Guwahati, Sept. 26, 2024: An officer of the Indian Police Service hailing from Arunachal Pradesh has created history in the national capital with his unique program, known as “Jan Sunwai,” listening to people.

Robin Hibu, and a native of the Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh, is based at the Delhi Police Headquarters after his promotion as the Director General of Police in June.

“Jan Sunwai” is a daily public hearing session held from 10 am to 1 pm that provides an open platform for citizens to directly present their grievances to top police officials, including the Commissioner of Police or the Special Commissioner of Vigilance.

Citizens can attend without prior appointments, entering through Gate No. 4, and head to the second floor, where they are received with empathy and understanding.

Hibu, known for his compassionate leadership, shares how deeply he is moved by the personal accounts of the public, many of whom express their distress through tears.

He believes that listening with empathy and offering words of hope can alleviate the burdens of those facing hardships. Hibu emphasizes that empathetic leadership can play a pivotal role in reducing the suffering of the common people, showing how kindness and compassion can restore dignity and hope.

The initiative has drawn widespread praise, including from Partin Tokong, who noted that government departments in northeastern India should consider adopting similar programs to better serve their populations.

Hibu’s journey, from his humble beginnings in the village of Hong to his current leadership role, serves as an inspiration. His dedication to public service, coupled with his deep Christian faith, highlights how compassionate governance can bring about meaningful change.

His story is not just one of personal achievement, but a testament to the power of empathy in public service, serving as a shining example for others across the nation.
