Maram, April 9, 2025: Don Bosco College (Autonomous), Maram, marked Social Work Month with a series of impactful events under the theme “Social Work: Compassion + Action.” The initiative aimed to highlight social responsibility, empathy, and community service, resonating with students across all semesters.
Head of the Social Work Department Dr. Evergreat Wanglar remarked, “This month was not just a celebration but a call to action, embodying the values of social work.”
“The observance left a lasting impact, reinforcing the college’s commitment to civic engagement and academic excellence,” added Dr Wanglar.
Activities kicked off with a Cleanliness Drive, promoting environmental awareness and sanitation. International Social Work Day featured a thought-provoking stage play by 6th-semester students, showcasing social issues and the transformative role of professional social workers.
A PowerPoint Presentation (PPT) Competition challenged students to creatively address pressing social concerns, while International Women’s Day was observed with the Women’s Cell and the Department of Education through talks, cultural performances, and discussions on gender equality.
Students led an Awareness Program addressing mental health and community development, extending support and resources to local communities.
A Literary Day inspired critical thinking through essay writing competitions, and a Class Exchange Program fostered peer learning on social themes. Mime performances and street plays tackled issues like drug abuse, climate change, and water conservation, while Soft Skill Classes equipped students with communication and leadership traits essential for aspiring social workers.
The grand finale was a National Seminar on “Education and Skill Development: Pathways for Children and Youth Empowerment,” facilitating dialogue among scholars and practitioners nationwide.
Established in 2000, Don Bosco College, Maram situated in Manipur claims to be the second highest-graded college in the North East region, following Cotton College in Guwahati, Assam. The college boasts of a diverse student body, representing 69 tribes from North East India and students from 12 states across India.
