Tangra, Kolkata, April 23, 2025: Students of Don Bosco Tuition Centre Nitika in Tangra, Kolkata extended their Earth Day 2025 celebrations beyond their institution, transforming Radhanath Chowdhury Road, Seal Lane and Tangra into a hub of environmental awareness. This student-led initiative aimed to inspire the local community and spotlight the urgent need for sustainable practices.
Earth Day, observed globally on April 22 since 1970, serves as a call to action for preserving the planet.
This year too, Don Bosco Nitika students brought this call directly to passersby, engaging them through dances, speeches, slogans, and skits that highlighted pressing issues like pollution, global warming, and water scarcity. The creative exhibition aimed to empower the public to collaborate toward building a healthier, greener Earth.
The 12-day event began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by local dignitaries. A local elder said, “Participating in initiatives like these teaches us that every effort counts when it comes to protecting the environment. We’re proud to be part of this meaningful day.”
Students showcased their talents across various activities. From the pledge dances of Class VI students to speeches by Classes IX and X, each performance underscored actionable steps for environmental conservation. Skits, dances, and experiments reinforced key messages, such as conserving water, planting trees, and reducing plastic use.
Inside the institution, celebrations continued as students participated in poetry, drama, and group discussions about taking responsibility for the planet.
A thrilled class X student said, “Today is a celebration of unity and the power of collective action. We hope this event inspires everyone to take steps, big and small, to care for our planet.”
Staff member Mrs. Kakali Das encouraged tree-planting initiatives, while DB Tech students supported the program by creating posters and engaging in campus cleaning.
Br. Lawrence Mondal, the mastermind behind the event said, “Collaborating with our students and community for Earth Day reaffirms our shared commitment to building a sustainable future.” He urged students, “Let us turn every day into Earth Day and work tirelessly to safeguard our future.”
The Earth Day campaign, supported by over 70 PWC (PricewaterhouseCoopers) volunteers, culminated in a vibrant exhibition of paintings, arts, and crafts created by the students—a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of community collaboration for the environment.
