Udalguri, Dec 7, 2025: The Christians of Udalguri, a town in Assam, on December 6 transcended denominational boundaries to unite for a day of service, worship, and vibrant celebration.
The day began with a special cleanliness drive. The participants swept streets, picked up litter, and meticulously prepared the town for the upcoming festivities. The Christians then worked together to adorn the town with stars and decorations, ahead of Christmas.
The events, guided by the Udalguri District Christian Co-Ordination Committee and in collaboration with the Assam Christian Forum, fostered unity and hope ahead of the holiday season, the organizers claimed.
The day’s highlight was a Carols rally. The town buzzed with excitement and communal praise as Christians from across Udalguri district converged at its headquarters, some 110 km north of Guwahati, the major town of the northeastern Indian state.
Speakers of Assamese, Bodo, Santali, Munda, Kruk, Nepali, Garo, Rabha, or other tongues, whether from the foothills or the plains, stood as a unified family in sharing their love for Christ, the organizers said.
The community first gathered at the Udalguri Nalbari Playground for a joint prayer service. Hands raised in prayer, they prayed for peace, thanked God for the blessings received, and shared stories of hope.
After the prayers, hundreds of people marched together, singing Christmas carols. Banners displayed messages of love and light, as drums and guitars played Christmas songs.
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity,” said a participant referencing Psalm 133:1.
