Hyderabad, June 19, 2026: A one‑day seminar and workshop on Climate Change and Ecological Spirituality brought together delegates from fourteen dioceses of the Telugu region at Hyderabad Archdiocese Social Service Society (HASSS), Hyderabad. The event was jointly organized by the Andhra Pradesh Forum of Diocesan Social Service Societies and the CBCI Commission for Environment and Climate Change.

The meet was inaugurated by Cardinal Antony Poola, Archbishop of Hyderabad and Chairman of CBCI, who urged “an awakened action from the region” and noted that this was the first time a CBCI commission had initiated such a program in the Telugu region.

Bishop Prakash Singli of Khammam, Chairman of the Regional Commission on Ecology, delivered both the keynote and valedictory addresses. He challenged participants to “take up the task of caring for the Common Home with greater determination,” and later led the final pledge in Telugu, each item endorsed by the assembly with a resounding Amen.

Bishop Ivan Pereira of Jammu & Kashmir, Chairman of the CBCI Commission for Environment & Climate Change, guided the meet from inception to conclusion. In his opening remarks, he appreciated ongoing efforts in the region and set the agenda of “learning from and walking with” dioceses in this vital concern. His input session on Heat Waves, Tree Loss and Climate Resilience introduced participants to the fundamentals of global warming and climate change.

Dr. Prashant CMI, secretary of the Commission, presented Ecological Dimension of Christian Spirituality as a Lifestyle, drawing inspiration from Laudato Si. He highlighted practical components of ecological spirituality that could serve as indicators of Christian commitment to the environment.

In the afternoon, diocesan groups worked on action plans, each delegation presenting its commitments in three‑minute reports. An eight‑point action plan and the 10‑GREEN Commandments were shared digitally via a newly created WhatsApp group, avoiding paper waste.

The seminar concluded with a collective pledge for the Care of the Common Home, symbolizing a renewed regional commitment to ecological spirituality and climate action.
