Kolkata, September 18, 2026: The Bangiya Christiya Pariseba (Bengal Christian Council) has voiced grave concern over rising violence and systemic harassment faced by the Christian community across West Bengal.
Despite repeated appeals for official hearings and independent inquiries into baseless conversion allegations, state authorities have remained silent, raising serious questions about their commitment to exposing the truth.
Community leaders report that over the past three months, churches, institutions, and believers have been subjected to malicious propaganda, physical attacks, and desecration of sacred symbols.
At least 26 verified incidents and 11 formal police complaints, including vandalism of places of worship, disruption of prayer services, and even exhumation of buried bodies. Alleged perpetrators have uploaded videos of these acts on social media, while mainstream national media has largely ignored the issue.
The Bangiya Christiya Pariseba notes a troubling pattern: attackers face little police action, victims are harassed when seeking legal redress, and administrative denial prevents police complaints from being registered.
Some perpetrators have been seen alongside ruling party leaders, while political figures have rationalized vigilante violence as “public protest.” The alignment of rhetoric, the BCP warns, appears to be groundwork for introducing anti‑conversion legislation in the state.
Quoting from the press note, Herod Mullick, Founding State Secretary of the Bangiya Christiya Pariseba, said: “Despite maintaining trust in the State Government and the Honorable Chief Minister, the Christian community in West Bengal expresses profound pain, frustration, and a growing sense of vulnerability.”
Subir Sircar, State Working President, added: “Our churches, institutions, and believers have been subjected to systematic false narratives, malicious propaganda, physical violence, and direct attacks—all aimed at dismantling a legacy of service built over centuries.”
The Bangiya Christiya Pariseba Core Committee reaffirmed its non‑political stance and strict adherence to Article 25 of the Constitution, declaring:
“We categorically oppose forced, fraudulent, or deceptive conversions and do not seek numerical expansion through unlawful means. We humbly urge the Hon’ble Chief Minister not to be guided by preconceived biases, one‑sided propaganda, or unverified social media videos.”
The appeal concluded with a prayer: “We pray for an immediate hearing with representatives of the Bangiya Christiya Pariseba to present the truth, restore confidence, and ensure equal protection under the law for the state’s peaceful Christian minority.”
