Mumbai: In memory of the seven youngsters who lost their lives in the Hotel City Kinara fire last year, Don Bosco Centre for Learning (DBCL), Kurla will be organising a football tournament, starting on Sunday, February 14.

Of the eight people who died in the fire in October, seven were students of DBCL. Their names are Taha Shaikh, Bernadette D’Souza, Sharjeel Shaikh, Akash Thapar, Irvin D’Souza, Brian Fernando and Sajid Chaudhary.

Brian Nunes, organiser of the tournament, said, “Few of the victims were a part of the football team of DBCL. This tournament is dedicated to them and their friends who lost their lives in the accident.”

It will be 8-a-side tournament and is open on first-come-first-serve basis for 16 teams belonging to Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Elite, Super and First divisions. The matches will be played till March 13 on every Sunday, reported DNA.

“Don Bosco will also participate in the tournament being held on the host ground. The college has two football teams – Engineering as well as Hotel Management,” said Nunes. Prizes worth a total sum of Rs 70,000 along with trophies shall be given away at the tournament.
