Dimapur: The oldest educational institution in Dimapur, the commercial capital of Nagaland state, celebrated its golden jubilee on Saturday.
Nagaland Home Minister Y Patton, who was among the first batch of Holy Cross Higher School, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Patton expressed joy to witness and to be a part of the celebration.
Patton recollected the journey of the school which started on April 16, 1966, with just 12 students.
At present, the school has 3,189 students and 90 teaching and 20 non-teaching staff. Salesian Father Joseph J Felix founded the school with George B Felix as its first headmaster.
The minister said schools now need to shift from just being a learning institution, to one that provides healthy individual environment and to impart life skills.
He hailed the teachers’ pivotal role in a student’s life and encouraged them to keep up with the ever changing educational system.
Earlier, Patton unveiled the Golden Jubilee monolith and planted the golden jubilee tree.
Short speeches were delivered by guests of honor, parliamentary secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control-Jacob Zhimomi and Bishop James Thoppil of Kohima.
The jubilee program also saw various entertainment and cultural extravaganza.
