Guwahati: Students of Assam Don Bosco University, Guwahati, leading state private university in northeastern India, are set to benefit from a new collaboration with international accounting firms.
The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and International Skill Development Corporation (ISDC) will give them an opportunity to gain the prestigious professional level ACCA qualification while studying for their degree.
The new B.Com in International Accounting & Finance is an Undergraduate Program in Commerce which is fully integrated with ACCA curriculum. The program entails a student completing the entire ACCA qualification alongside their B.Com in International Accounting & Finance from ADBU.
The student needs to attend a few external examinations across 3 years of her B.Com Program. The classes are run on campus itself through professional trainers from ISDC, which is the Largest Approved Learning Partner in the Country.
This is the First Integrated Bachelor’s Degree in North East India which allows students to pursue ACCA with paper exemptions.
This initiative will also result in International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) – the business reporting standards which India is currently adopting, being incorporated into the new B.Com curriculum, thereby giving students a competitive edge as employers look for new recruits with an understanding of the new standards.
ACCA was the first professional accountancy body to incorporate IFRS into its qualifications nearly 20 years ago. International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) are designed as a common global language for business affairs so that company accounts are understandable and comparable across international boundaries; which will help upgrade the level of knowledge of students for acquainting themselves with the upcoming IFRS implementation in India.
A MoU has been signed with ACCA and ISDC. While ACCA is the global body for professional accountants based in UK while ISDC is a London-based leading Skill Development Company. The MoU was signed on the ground of huge employment opportunities of IFRS and its wide acceptance in 70 percent of countries.
Kush Ahuja, head of ACCA Business Relations, and Tom Mannapurathu Joseph, head of ISDC Strategy for Key Markets signed the papers. Fr Stephen Mavely ADBU vice chancellor and pro vice chancellor Fr. Joseph Nellanatt signed on behalf of the university.
