Neotan: A Catholic school in Arunachal Pradesh on June 21 celebrated the International Yoga Day with all its students attending sessions of various physical and breathing exercises.
“Yoga is a very simple process of reversing the ordinary flow of energy and consciousness so that mind becomes the dynamic center,” said Father Felix Anthony, principal of Newman School in Neotan village justifying the decision to join the global celebrations.
According to the Miao diocesan priest, people look outside for fulfillment. “We are living in a world that conditions us to believe that outer attainments can give us what we want.”
The 300 students of the school expressed joy at the end of the event. “I am feeling so light after the session and it is the first time we are celebrating such event in our school,” said Salem Chithan, a tenth grader.
The children were taught basic yoga for beginners. “We do not have to wait for International Yoga Day to do yoga. We can do it every day to find peace within,” Junnem Langching, a science teacher, told the students.
The soft music was played at the background to help the children participate better.
Newman School Neotan is among 41 Schools under the Newman Educational Society, the educational wing of Miao diocese. The society caters to some 11,800 students in eight districts in the northeastern most corner of India.
