Mumbai: The minority Christian community will stage a protest at Azad Maidan on Monday against errors, omissions and designating road-widening projects on many Church-run schools across the city in the draft development plan (DP).
“We are very concerned that the discrepancies pointed out by us when the earlier draft was published have not been rectified in the new draft. The concerns of the community have not been addressed. We want the government to take cognizance of our issues and the way the draft DP is progressing,” said Fr Nigel Barrett, spokesperson for the Archdiocese.
A few weeks back, the head of the Church’s real estate department, Fr Richard Crasto, on the direction of Oswald Cardinal Gracias had sent a note to parish priests to take serious note of the errors and ensure they send in their objections and suggestions, The Times of India reported.
Activist Godfrey Pimenta, who studied the draft, has been conducting meetings over the weekends to enable the community to understand how the errors and designated use of Church/school property will affect them.
