New Delhi: Farmers from Tamil Nadu on April 10 ran naked near the prime minister’s office to protest lack of government assistance in their fight for a drought relief package.
The farmers came to Jantar Mantar, the common venue for public protest in New Delhi, 28 days ago. They came to the prime minister’s office to submit a memorandum.
According to local media, the 7-member delegation was taken to the office and told that they would meet with the premier.
When they reached there, they found the prime minister was unavailable. So they had to hand over their memorandum to a PMO official instead.
While heading back to Jantar Mantar, which is hardly a kilometer away, a farmer jumped off the police vehicle, took off his clothes, and started running on the road.
Two other protestors joined him and started running naked in South Block. At one point, the farmers even started rolling on the street naked.
The farmer who led the naked protest was eventually arrested.
