Kohima: Churches in Nagaland Friday organised a motorbike rally to spread the message: “Election is a sacred duty for Christians”.

The state assembly election is due early next year.

The apex church body Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) supported by other Christian organisations have been holding awareness campaigns to have a cleaner election.

Todays rally covered over 150 km in districts of Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Wokha and Kohima along the National Highway-2 and reached Kohima Aug 4 evening, reported India Today.

The bikers encouraged people not to indulge in selling of votes and also to utilise only voter identity card.

Clean Election is not a very difficult task if the candidates agree not to buy votes and people desist from selling votes, said Convener of NBCC Clean Election Campaign Core Committee Rev Dr Mar Atsongchanger.

He said Clean Election Campaign is neither against nor in support of any political party, but it is a movement to achieve a cleaner election process. PTI NBS NN
