Guwahati: “Christ is for all and He is the saviour of the world” was the resonating message of the pre-Christmas celebration which brought together people of all walks of life.
Women Development Centre (WDC), the social wing of the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod (SCC) organized the celebration on December 16 at Kharguli,Guwahati.
Special invitees included Swami Vijai Pandit from Hare Krishna Akshaya Patra and Mousumi Brhamakumari, in-charge of New Guwahati unit and Jonab Md. Azizar Rahman.
WDC durectir Sister Betsy Devasia, in her welcome speech said, “We celebrate this one event, without looking into cast creed, color and gender but as children of One God.”
Swami Vijai Pandit stressed the need to celebrate Christmas “every day in our life. Every moment is a moment of Joy. Be happy always.”
Mousumi Brhamakumari expressed happiness at seeing people of varied religion and faith gathered together in unity to celebrate Christmas and New Year. “Whatever be the name of God we are here in the name of God. We are happy that Jesus is born with the message of joy, love peace and hope to all.”
Father Amalraj, Deputy Secretary of Northeast Bishops’ Council, noted that every religion speaks of Peace. “We need peace today when the world is torn with hatred and violence. So let us speak and live peace,” he added.
Rahman, the Muslim leader urged the gathering not to make differences in the name of religion. “Consider ourselves as human beings. Do not sprout hatred and war in the name of God and faith instead germinate peace and happiness,” he added.
The program included a variety of tribal dances with unique steps to the rhythms. While children performed picturesque dances, village women danced in glittered attire.
