Bengaluru: In a freak accident in Bengaluru, an airborne firecracker fell on the head of a 12-year-old boy at a church, killing him on the spot.

The impact was so strong that the boy’s skull cracked open and his brain spilled over. The incident occurred on January 14 night.

The boy, identified as Dhanush S, had come to attend the Feast of St Sebastian at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Bengaluru along with his uncle and sister.

The boy was a fourth grader at Delhi Public School. Bursting firecrackers was part of the celebration.

The accident occurred at 9:30 pm in the church premises. One rocket fell on the head of the boy. He had collapsed at the spot and was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The weight of the cracker was 2 kg thank broke open the boy’s head. A case of negligence has been registered. However, the church said it was not responsible for the accident as it was organised by another party.

His uncle said that they were standing far away from the spot where crackers were being lit. One of the rockets landed on Dhanush’s head.
