Mumbai: A Bombay archdiocesan priest has been appointed the deputy secretary general of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India.
Father Jervis D’Souza, director of the Orientation Programme at St Pius X College, will replace Monsignor Joseph Chinnayyan. The new deputy secretary general will assume office on June 1.
Father D’Souza’s appointment was announced at the 33rd General Body Meeting of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India now underway in Bengaluru, southern India.
Father D’Souza is also the deputy secretary of the Western Region Bishops’ Council. Earlier he was the archdiocesan judicial vicar.
Father D’Souza was born on December 31, 1968 and ordained a priest on April 18, 1998.
